Ralph S. Kenyon, age 95, of Lindenhurst, passed away peacefully July 13, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 11, 1924 to Sidney and Anne (Blake) Kenyon. On July 11, 1959, after a short, whirlwind courtship, Ralph proposed marriage to Patricia Burns, with an apple pie he personally made just for the occasion.
Ralph was a graduate of Waukegan High School. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served during WWII as a First Lieutenant in the 8th Air Force 457th Bomber Wing; Aviation Cadet Pilot; Army Specialty Bombardier and Squadron Leader, earning several medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
After serving in the military, Ralph attended Monmouth College for two years. He was a long time, valued employee with Johnson Motors in Waukegan until retiring in 1989. He enjoyed doing most anything outdoors especially if fishing was involved; he favored Lake Michigan and Door County. Ralph was a loving husband, father and Papa.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Roy) Anderson, Richard (Candace) Kenyon, Philip (Kimberly) Kenyon, Mary (Robert) Fritz; grandchildren, Kaitlin (Josh) Albers, Emily (Josh Waggener) Anderson, Andrew, Justin (Kim), Christine Kenyon, Ryan, Margaret, Riley, Matthew, Jack, Nicholas Fritz; great grandchildren, Colton, Grayson, and Bennett; and a cousin, Rhea White.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Kenyon; son, Ralph S. Kenyon, Jr.; sister, Marjorie Papan.
10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 17, 2020 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 2118 Main Street, Spring Grove, IL 60081. Social distancing and masks will be required.
Inurnment will take place at Warren Cemetery Mausoleum.
